How to Get a Massive Rooster Tail on Your Sea-Doo: TrimX Stage 1+
If you want an even bigger Seadoo rooster tail than the TrimX Stage 1 Nozzle provides on the water, then the new TrimX Stage 1+ is the answer. But before you grab your tools, you need to know that this isn't just a simple bolt-on part—it requires physical modifications and precise IBR recalibration. As your local Maryland PWC mechanic, we are breaking down exactly how this massive upgrade works and why you can't do it in your driveway.
Since we launched as the official US Hub for TrimX Performance, the standard Stage 1 nozzle has been flying off the shelves. It’s the ultimate 20-minute upgrade to double your upward trim. But the Stage 1+ takes it to a whole new level.
Stage 1 vs. Stage 1+: What's the Difference?
Stage 1 (The Bolt-On): You unbolt your factory steering nozzle, bolt on the TrimX nozzle, and go ride. It uses the factory limits of your iBR bucket.
Stage 1+ (The Modification): We physically modify the iBR system. By making precise adjustments to the iBR arm and filing down the reverse bucket bump stops, we allow the nozzle to travel significantly further upward.
Watch the Process: The Stage 1+ Breakdown
Our partner Josh, the lead engineer and founder of TrimX Australia, recently put together a deep-dive video showing exactly how much extra trim you can squeeze out of your ski by modifying these stops.
The Catch: Why You Can't DIY This in Your Driveway
After watching that video, you might be tempted to grab a metal file and start grinding away at your reverse bucket. Stop.
The physical modification is only half the battle. Your Sea-Doo is heavily computerized. The ECU knows exactly where the iBR bucket is supposed to stop. If you file the bump stops and push the iBR arm past its factory parameters, the computer will panic. It will throw iBR fault codes, lock you in neutral, or cause the actuator motor to bind and burn out.
To safely run the Stage 1+ setup, the ski’s computer must be told that it has "new" limits.
